Purpose to Excel

Hebrew 11:4. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

The doctrinal mystery between Cain and Abel may never be fully understood. However, we can agree that something was different about the gift that Abel gave versus that of Cain’s. Commentaries suggest that the reason why God rejected the offering of Cain was because evil was in his heart. For whatever reason, Cain had a dislike for his brother. Cain eventually murdered his brother attacking him in ambushed style. Suggesting that he had been planning the attack for some time.

Abel wanted to present his first offering to God without natural or spiritual blemishes. Abel purposed to excel while Cain just purposed to give. Whatever is done in life should be done through excellence (good, not bad things).

What is done for the Lord should be performed with an excellent spirit. God was a witness to what the gifts and the givers of the first offering stood for.
